BASIC DOSING RULES FOR ALL PETS:

We generally recommend between 0.25 mg (Regular Dose) to 0.5 mg (Strong Dose) of CBD per every 1 lb of body weight.

  • Example 1: I want to give my 40 lb dog a Regular Dose, I would multiply his weight by 0.25 to get 10mg of CBD (40 X 0.25 = 10).
  • Example 2: I want to give my 10 lb cat a Strong Dose, I would multiply his weight by 0.5 to get 5mg of CBD (10 lbs X 0.5 = 5mg).

Dosing Frequency: Give every 8 hours or as needed. Give 30 minutes before an event (thunderstorm, fireworks, leaving the home, separation, traveling with your pet). For all other uses give once to twice a day.

CBD DOG TREATS & CBD CAT TREATS

Trying to figure out the correct CBD dosage size for your dog is simple once you know how to calculate it. You see no matter if you are figuring out how much CBD a human should take, how much a horse should take, or how much you should give your dog it’s all based on body weight. You will see that the most important variable to any CBD dosage equation is probably the body weight of the patient.

Today there are hundreds of different dog breeds, all with many different characteristics. For CBD dosing purposes let’s stay focused on their size or body weight. The smallest breed in the world is the chihuahua they generally weigh 3-7LBS. On the heavy end of the spectrum is English Mastiffs which can weigh up to 160-250LBS. This means that there is a wide range to what the correct CBD dosage for a particular dog can be.

In general, you would give a chihuahua between 1.5 and 3.5mg of CBD. On the other hand, in general, you would give an English Mastiff between 80 and 125mg of CBD. With such a wide range of dosing sizes, it is important to know your pet’s optimum dose and measure the CBD out properly.

If your dog is taking CBD for the first time it is good practice to start off with even a lower amount than suggested. Do this for the initial application and once assured the CBD has no adverse effects on your dog then gradually increase the dose until you get the effects you desire.

Finding out the correct amount of CBD to give your cat should be easier to determine than that for a dog. Simply because the range in weight of all cat breeds does not vary as drastically as the range in weight of all dog breeds. Adult Singapura felines can weigh an average of 4-6LBS. However, an adult Siberian feline can reach up to 26LBS.

As you can see in general cats will need far smaller CBD dosage sizes than dogs need. The main reason is CBD dosage is primarily based on body weight. So in order to find out the amount of CBD you should give your cat, you must weigh it. Getting the exact weight is important. If you are off by 5LBS it could mean the difference between giving your cat too little CBD or too much CBD. You want to give your cat just the right amount of CBD, this is known as the “optimal dose”.

Besides body weight, the other important factor in determining your cat’s CBD dosing size is the magnitude of its condition or symptoms. For mild to moderate conditions or symptoms, you should only need to apply a regular dose of CBD. However, if the symptoms or condition are intense or extreme try administering a strong dose.

Remember these are just recommendations and starting point suggestions. If you find you get the same desired effect from less CBD than you can reduce the dose. Similarly, if you think your cat needs an even stronger dose than suggested you can gradually increase the amount until you get the effect you want.

Once you have determined the weight you can use this information to find out precisely how much CBD to give your cat. Whether you are applying a regular dose or a strong dose, we suggest when using any new CBD product you start out with a lower dose than suggested. Do this to make sure your cat does not have any adverse reactions to the product. Once this has been established you should increase the dose until you get the results you desire.
